Can You Share Two Minutes of Your Time?

I wanted to take a moment to update you on the latest news from the KWSB Alumni Advisory Board (KAAB).

The six KAAB directors (meet us by visiting http://www.kwsbalumni.org/Board.html) are in the process of reaching out and establishing contact with every student volunteer at KWSB. Our goal is to educate them on the mission of KAAB and to encourage them to reach out for assistance when necessary.

Look for a coordinated and sustained KAAB promotional campaign to be launched at the end of next month. The first phase of the campaign will be driven by social networking tools. The next phase will involve e-mail and WSC publications. The purpose of those campaigns is to get alumni involved with our effort.

If you have not done so already, we encourage you to formally join our effort. We have streamlined the ways in which you can help. Please visit http://www.kwsbalumni.org/GetInvolved.html for more information.

It will take you a minute or so to read that page. It will take you another minute to write and send the e-mail with the information about how you can help.

Two minutes (okay, perhaps three or four if you type slowly) is all it takes!! It’s painless! And hey, it’s free! I promise!

Please take time today or this weekend to tell us how you can help. It will save us a ton of time down the line and allow us all focus more on the centerpiece of this effort – helping KWSB students.

Speaking of the students, there are approximately 25 of them volunteering at KWSB this semester. That number reflects a pretty significant increase compared to this time last year.
KWSB recently launched a new website. You can check it out at www.kwsb.org. Dr. Terry Schliesman, who is the faculty advisor for KWSB, has been instrumental in launching the new site. He tells us that the current site is by no means a finished product, but changes and improvements are being made as time permits.

If you would like to learn more about today’s KWSB and take a quick video tour of the studio, visit http://www.kwsbalumni.org/TodaysKWSB.html.

Don’t forget – please take two minutes to get involved with KAAB today. Please visit http://www.kwsbalumni.org/GetInvolved.html to learn more.

Warm Regards,
Brian Leifker,

Introducing the KWSB Alumni Advisory Board

Thank you for taking a moment to read about the new KWSB Alumni Advisory Board (KAAB). We're excited to formally launch this effort.

KAAB was created last year by a group of WSC alumni, all of whom are appreciative of the positive impact KWSB (and Western State College) had on our lives. Our goal was to find a way to give back, or to borrow a title from an old movie, pay it forward. Understanding that there is power in numbers, we decided to engage and coordinate alumni interested in supporting KWSB.

KAAB adopted the following mission statement: "Strengthening KWSB through alumni support to maximize the WSC experience for current and future students." As we begin our work to fulfill that mission statement, the board has identified six specific areas in which you can help. Please visit the new KAAB website (www.kwsbalumni.org) to learn more. If there is an area where you can be of assistance, please contact Hilarie Ryals (hilarie@kwsbalumni.org). Your time investment can be minimal or extensive.

Allow me to stress one very important point - you DO NOT have to work in broadcasting to help.

You may be suspicious that this effort is really all about getting you to donate money. That's not correct! KAAB is not legally positioned to accept charitable contributions. We're asking you to share your skills and knowledge to make KWSB stronger than ever.

Please keep tabs on KAAB through its website, blog, Facebook, and Twitter. Most importantly, please get involved with this important effort. Your willingness to share just a little of your time is critical in terms of the future success of KAAB and KWSB.

Best wishes,
Brian Leifker, KAAB Chairman

Keeping KWSB Alive

You may have read about Clear Channel's latest chainsaw act, or heard about other radio stations' financial problems. But college radio is still thriving, and it's the last stand for independent radio. Read a NY Times article about college radio at this link:

http://www.nytimes.com/2008/12/07/arts/television/07sisa.html?_r=2&th&em

KWSB represents something different for each of us. Over the next months we'll keep working on the effort to provide the support to keep KWSB on the air for many future generations of students. This blog will provide updates and tell you how you can get involved.

Our Facebook reach has grown quickly, and we're on LinkedIn too. Join up to find your long-lost friends, but also join to stay connected and learn how you can get involved!

Keep the Gunnison Valley rockin', and help support KWSB!
